At Château de la Mhotte
In France, the school system is organized centrally. Church schools and a few other free schools receive state funding, while the other free schools struggle to survive. They fight for financial stability and continue to fight prejudice.
Since the 1970s, students at Château de la Mothe have been attending l'Ecole de la Mhotte, one of the few French Waldorf schools in the countryside. Some parents moved to the area to be able to send their children to this school and they accept high costs. The location is idyllic, the nature is healthy, and the possibilities for adventure are many. The teaching staff is highly committed and has developed a rich cultural, artistic and crafting life - and has experienced ups and downs. Recently, teachers and parents decided to open a ninth grade and to try and expand the school into the upper grades. But the castle must be maintained. And fire safety measures also must be implemented swiftly. The school received support from the German school movement back when it opened, and now it is in need once again.
