Estrella Andina in Lujan de Cuyo (Mendoza Province)

In the far west of Argentina, bordered by the mighty Andes, lies the province of Mendoza, with Aconcagua, the highest mountain in Latin America, at more than 6000 metres. Large parts of this region are continental dry steppes, but there are also more water-rich areas where the larger cities are. In this westernmost region of Argentina, people interested in anthroposophy have been gathering since about the year 2000 - first in Maipu, then in Lujan de Cayo. From this group of people, and through highly committed parents, the Estrellitas Andinas Waldorf Kindergarten came into being in March 2012. At the beginning of 2013, the kindergarten moved to Lujan de Cuyo, and from there, further development took place, so that after receiving permission in 2016, the first class could be opened. In 2019, the Estrella Andina Waldorf School grew to 100 children in the kindergarten and the first four classes. In 2019, however, the problems of the country and the province increased. Inflation rose to 55%. With flea markets, fruit sales and similar activities alone, the problems could no longer be solved, and the further construction of classrooms could not be financed. Years of restrictions followed, due to the pandemic, and since then parents, children and teachers have been happy to receive any support that is offered.
