The challenge: rising costs for vehicle maintenance
Like every school in the country, the school maintains a number of vehicles, including two large buses and a minibus for transporting the children, a small car for daily errands and a pickup truck for transporting heavy goods. Unfortunately, a school in Kenya cannot function without school buses. Due to many years of use on unpaved and bumpy roads, the vehicles are in poor condition. Repairs are often very costly.
The solution: Reliable vehicles for a better future
In order to enable the children to continue their dream of a good education, the school is urgently seeking support to replace its outdated vehicles with reliable, functional ones:
• A 67-seat school bus to help transport more children safely, especially from remote areas. More space means that more children can be transported together, which is cost-efficient and at the same time makes for a more comfortable journey for everyone.
• An additional 51-seat school bus will help serve all routes while reducing overcrowding on current buses.
• A used car is needed to run errands as well as outreach programmes to keep the days running smoothly.
• A pickup truck is needed to transport larger items.
The funding goal: making a difference together
The school is therefore asking for the support of generous donors who understand the importance of investing in the education and well-being of children, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. And therefore, also in the necessary vehicles, the estimated total cost of which is around 27,900,000 Kenyan shillings (KSh) – approximately 214,615 euros. This amount covers the purchase price, registration and initial maintenance, and is estimated as follows (as of 10 March 2025):
• One 67-seater school bus - KSh 15,000,000 (Euro 107,053)
• One 51-seater school bus - KSh 8,400,000 (Euro 59,950)
• A second-hand car - KSh 1,200,000 (Euro 8,564)
• A pickup truck - KSh 3,300,000 (Euro 23,551)
