Your WOW-Day help: Dublin Steiner School

News ,  Current news ,  Waldorf worldwide ,  WOW-Day

Dublin Steiner School is the only Waldorf school in the city. Most schools in Ireland belong to the Catholic church, very few are non-denominational or interdenominational, and very few people know anything about Waldorf Schools. As a non-denominational, independent school, Dublin Steiner School receives no financial support from the state - so it is dependent on parental contributions and fundraising.

In a letter of thanks from the Dublin Steiner School it becomes clear how important mutual support is for many different institutions in the worldwide Waldorf network.

Like many other initiatives, this small Waldorf school is very happy to be a part of the community of schools. With the letters of thanks we receive from the schools, kindergartens and therapeutic education institutions, we like to show you where your donations go and how they are used. The WOW-Day donations received have been used by Dublin Steiner School to furnish an additional classroom and to extend the school garden and we have received the following letter of thanks:

Dear Friends,

We are so grateful to be part of this wonderful community, and so grateful for the boundless warmth and generosity we have received. The very best wishes from all of us here at Dublin Steiner School.

We are a small Waldorf School in Dublin, one of seven in Ireland. We currently have 17 school children in two classes and 32 kindergarten children in two groups. Our school is located in a beautiful, very old building in the centre of Dublin, in a district where Vikings once lived. Our teachers come from Ireland, Italy, Spain, Poland and Germany.

We are very proud to be part of the worldwide Waldorf community and we love the contact with schools in other countries.

Thank you very much for your great donation. It means so much to us that you have worked so hard to raise money for us! We will open a new class one in September and half of the donated money will be used for the new classroom. The room is very bare at the moment and we need benches, a new blackboard and decorations for the seasonal table. The children will love it! The other half of the money will be spent on our garden. We have made a nice new design with vegetable beds and a willow dome, and in the next four months we will have several working days with our parents to make the garden more beautiful. The money will help us to buy plants, building materials and tools.

Many thanks!
