Brazil, Salva Dor: Donation makes another year possible
The Projeto Salva Dor is a social project in Salvador da Bahia in northeastern Brazil. It aims to support the development of children in the São Lázaro district and its surroundings. Salvador da Bahia is a city about the size of Berlin. The city is criss-crossed by slums, called favelas in Brazil. Slums are districts where many people live in small apartments close together. On the hills of São Lázaro, improvised houses of over 2,000 people are nestled in a very small space. They live under difficult conditions. Often no water comes out of the tap; the apartments are very small. Sometimes there is only one room for six people.
As a place of peace and quiet, Projeto offers a safe place for about 50 children every day. Here they can play, exercise, cook, bake, eat, paint, do handicrafts, learn and much more. The project is popular and important. It offers the children space and thus relieves the burden on families. By providing security it helps the families and leads to a more harmonious relationship between children and parents.
Lukas from the Projeto Salva Dor tells us about the impact that the WOW-Day donations have on site: " Your donation helps us to continue the project. The president does not care about people without money. They do not get any help. Thus, projects like the Projeto Salva Dor do not receive any state subsidies. With your donation the educators can get a small salary to take care of their families. We can also buy new furniture for the kindergarten group. Salvador is located by the sea. The salty, humid sea air is not good for the wooden furniture. Unfortunately they break very quickly. We thank you very much for your important help. Thanks to your support we can continue the work with the children and young people in Projeto Salva Dor."

The time frame for this year’s WOW Day is from 29 September to 29 November 2020. We invite all people in curative educational and social therapeutic institutions, as well as all students at Waldorf Schools to be a part of this worldwide campaign and to organize their own WOW Day this year. 100 percent of the proceeds will be forwarded to Waldorf and social projects.
