WOW-Day: Here's where your help goes - Tanzania: nutrition program for the students

Current news ,  Waldorf worldwide ,  WOW-Day

“Your WOW-Day donation will be used to supplement the rigorous nutrition program for the students”

Zanzibar is a group of islands belonging to Tanzania off the coast of East Africa. The Creative Education Foundation is a small school with currently 72 students with classes 2 to 8. All students are all from very disadvantaged families, and many children do not have fathers, which makes life tougher for their mothers, who cook over wood, carry water to their homes in buckets, and are not really educated enough to work. Many of the student families live below the poverty line and the school have had numerous cases of malnutrition among the students.

„Therefore the WOW-Day donation will be used to supplement the rigorous nutrition program for the students, explains Judi Palmer“, founder of the school, „you might be interested to know that we have been measuring weights for our Grade 2 students for one year now, to track how impactful our food program is. During the Christmas holiday break, all students dropped in weight and body mass index - some slightly, some drastically, but every child in that class lost weight while school was closed. It demonstrates how hard their families are struggling and how many suffer from food insecurity here in Zanzibar. On behalf of the Trustees of CEFZ, our teachers, and myself, thank you and all for your continuing support – we really appreciate it and it is much needed.
