Ethiopia, Finks Hawzien: bread and milk

The Ethiopian association Fink Hawzien is located in the small village of Hawzien in northern Ethiopia. The association has set itself the goal of improving the living conditions for the people in Hawzien. In particular, they focus on children‘s education. The association ensures that children from all classes and especially children from poor families are allowed to attend school. The kindergarten has three groups with a total of 120 children. Today more than 200 children attend the classes one to five of the grade school. The association plans to extend the school up to eighth grade.

On the one hand the school and kindergarten curricula must meet the requirements of the Ethiopian education authority; on the other hand new elements are to be introduced, such as playful learning and independent working. In addition, the kindergarten and the school try to incorporate local Ethiopian elements such as handicrafts, dances and music, as well as fairy tales and fables.

This helps us to secure the supply with bread from our own bakery and milk for more than one year. In this way, you have ensured that no child in kindergarten or school has to learn hungry. If there is any money left, we will use it as a small contribution to the drilling of the well or for the construction of the science and media room. We thank you very much!”

The time frame for this year’s WOW Day is from 29 September to 29 November 2020. We invite all people in curative educational and social therapeutic institutions, as well as all students at Waldorf Schools to be a part of this worldwide campaign and to organize their own WOW Day this year. 100 percent of the proceeds will be forwarded to Waldorf and social projects.
