The Hekima Waldorf School was founded in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, in 1997. Today, almost 200 children attend the school, 20 percent of them orphans. The school offers children an education based on Waldorf pedagogy, regardless of their origin or the financial means of their parents. For some, this is a crucial way to escape poverty through a good education.

Many of the families cannot afford a car or a motorcycle to bring their children safely to school. To ensure that the children stay away from the dangerous roads of this country, the school offers a school bus. Three buses collect the children in the morning and bring them home safely in the afternoon. But the city is big and the buses have to cover a large area to collect all the children. Sometimes it takes up to three hours for the children to get home after school.

„Thanks to your hard work and generous donation we can buy another bus,” explains Casmir from Hekima Waldorf School, "so we can make the trips shorter and the children have more time to play at home with friends and family. And the bus won't be the only change made possible by your WOW-Day work", he reports, "with the help of your donations we can install a groundwater well that will make us independent from the local waterworks. This will help our school to grow its own produce and maintain the garden. We thank you very much!”

The time frame for this year’s WOW Day is from 29 September to 29 November 2020. We invite all people in curative educational and social therapeutic institutions, as well as all students at Waldorf Schools to be a part of this worldwide campaign and to organize their own WOW Day this year. 100 percent of the proceeds will be forwarded to Waldorf and social projects.
