WOW-Day in Moldovia: „A fair is not a fair without good food“

Current news ,  Waldorf worldwide ,  WOW-Day

Worldwide solidarity with Waldorf institutions – that is the idea behind Waldorf One World, WOW-Day for short. For one day, committed people collect donations in many different ways and give the money to Waldorf facilities in need. For many years, the Waldorf School in Moldova has been participating in the worldwide campaign day – even though the school depends on support itself. Its status as a state lyceum brings some financial support, but subjects such as handicrafts, painting or eurythmy are not funded by the state. For most parents it is a great effort to contribute to the school's running costs. WOW-Day coordinator Natalia Vacariuc tells us how WOW-Day 2019 went:

„In the age of overwhelming concerns and never ending flounder between needs and desires to many are those who don't cherish Saturdays as they were meant to be cherished. But here in Moldova, October 19th, a small community gathered to serve the great purpose of kindness and generosity.

The morning was rather cold, and the sun was well hidden amongst the dense clouds, unable to push through the fog. But in spite of the weather conditions, the autumn fair took place with just as much joy as if it were a day full of summerish sunshine. Celebrating 100 years of Waldorf pedagogy around the world, the students of the Waldorf Lyceum in Chișinău, having put their creativity and ingenuity to the test, brought happiness to the visitors through a beautiful concert. Folk dancers, instrumentalists, classes of children and teenagers who decided to unify their voices for the sake of beauty and sound, all of these acts came together into a seemingly speckled presentation, but through which a message was communicated: "We are the Waldorf Community of Moldova and we are here to give a helping hand for other communities around the globe"; a message aimed to reach beyond all borders. I wouldn't pass over the atmosphere created by decorations: an anniversary carpet made up of pupils' works at Handicraft lessons. But a fair is not a fair without good food, and no one knows of this better than us, people of Moldova. The taste of late October combined with the beautiful smell of friendship made it more special to sit and enjoy delicious barbecue with a cup of hot "izvar". The atmosphere was certainly pleasurable even for the neighbours of the school, because our celebration was spreading joy beyond comprehension. The truth is, it is impossible to ignore the reality that only through such events where people are brought together for the same purpose, or Waldorf Community builds a stronger bond within.“
