Partner Organisations
In several countries, we work with local partner organisations whom you should contact directly (rather than us). They provide you with information and advice about voluntary services in Germany, conduct interviews and make a selection of volunteers. They also support you in preparing for your volunteer service in Germany, help you find an internship or even offer internships themselves.
Our partner organisations are affiliated with schools, kindergartens, social therapeutic or curative education institutions in the worldwide Waldorf network. They have many years of experience with voluntary services and volunteers and are happy to assist you.

If your home country is listed below, you can only apply through our local partner organisation. Don't worry, the application completely free and you will receive support every step of the way. Your voluntary service through our partner organisations
What is the South–North voluntary service?
The South-North Programme of weltwärts is a development-oriented voluntary service funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It offers you the opportunity to complete a 12-month voluntary social year in Germany.
As a volunteer, you will work in a selected social, ecological or charitable institution, where you will actively support local people and make a meaningful contribution to everyday life. Many of these institutions value the enrichment brought by volunteers through the weltwärts programme and are therefore happy to welcome you! We view volunteering as a learning service, with a strong focus on exchange between people from different cultural backgrounds.
What are the requirements for weltwärts voluntary service in Germany?
- You are a citizen of a country on the current DAC list.
- You have a school-leaving certificate, a vocational qualification or other relevant skills or experience.
- An appropriate visa for your volunteer service in Germany. The sending organisation in your home country will support you with your application
- weltwärts is aimed at anyone aged 18 to 28. For people with a disability or impairment, the age limit is extended to 35 years.
- You are medically fit to do voluntary service in Germany. Having an impairment or disability does not rule out health suitability.

Focus on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nation
- You will get to know new fields of work and professions and live with a host family. This will open up a wide range of development opportunities for you.
- By working in relevant fields, you will actively engage with topics such as diversity, gender equality, social participation and quality education.
- You will deal with issues of sustainability, e.g. in the socio-therapeutic and curative education workplaces where biodynamic market gardens and farms are affiliated as fields of work for people with disabilities.
- You will learn about approaches to combating poverty through the approach of sustainable agriculture in the socio-therapeutic and curative education facilities.
- The volunteer service should strengthen and enable you to get involved in your country of origin and initiate development processes.
- You will train your social and intercultural skills by working in social fields and in international teams.
- Through the exchange with other volunteers, you are involved in an ongoing process of reflection.
