WOW-Day: Here's where your help goes! Ghana, Cosmos-Center: Food from the market

Current news ,  Waldorf worldwide ,  WOW-Day

The Cosmos Center is the only institution for curative education in Dormaa Ahenkro, giving a safe home to an average of seven children with disabilities. It is located in the town of Dormaa Ahenkro and provides a safe home for around twelve children with disabilities. In that region children who are born with a disability are considered bewitched and an evil omen for the entire family. It is said that these children are brought by the river. For this reason, they are called River Children, “Nsuoba”, in Ghana. The parents are advised to return the children to the river. The children are put at the banks of the river, where they then die. Some parents do not want to surrender their children to this fate. They then hide it in one of the back corners of their house, barely fed. There are still only a few institutions in Ghana that take care of children with disabilities. The Cosmos Center is happy if they can raise enough money for their everyday needs, such as one warm meal a day as Patrice Reinhardt describes: “Your donation enables us to go to the market and buy food for all the children and helpers in the Centre! And this is really a great help for us! With us the children not only get three healthy meals, as well as clothes, a mattress, and a mosquito net; we even started a few years ago with a small school. Ayala teaches them the letters, practices arithmetic with them, and yes, we even introduced form drawing. At the end of the lessons, the children usually hear an old Ghanaian tale. The joy with which our children go to school is hard to describe. From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank you for your WOW-Day donation!”
