The Humane School is a Waldorf initiative in rural Kenya that is committed to providing a good school education based on Waldorf Education for children from the lowest income families in Sirende. The school was founded in January 2008 as a kindergarten and now runs from playgroup to eighth grade. There are only two other Waldorf Schools in Kenya, both in Nairobi. The state capital is over 400 kilometers and eight hours' drive away. The Humane School enabled families in a rural region to send their children to a Waldorf School for the first time.

Since the Humane School is open every weekday from 8 am to 5 pm, parents have enough time to do their odd jobs and earn some money to support the family. They do this without worries because their children are in the care of well-trained and loving teachers. During the weekend, various school activities or celebrations take place. The Humane School also invites children from other schools to try activities that are not offered at the state schools.

"The WOW-Day donation will be used for the children's school meals", explains Juli Miet, founder of the school, "this way the children receive a balanced diet and can concentrate better during the school day. This also minimizes the time the children spend going home and returning to school during lunch break. On a normal school day, most parents are not at home anyway. And those who are at home cannot afford three meals a day, so the children return to school hungry and tired. Thank you very much for your support for the school lunch!"

The time frame for this year’s WOW Day is from 29 September to 29 November 2020. We invite all people in curative educational and social therapeutic institutions, as well as all students at Waldorf Schools to be a part of this worldwide campaign and to organize their own WOW Day this year. 100 percent of the proceeds will be forwarded to Waldorf and social projects.
