WOW-Day in Stuttgart: Supporting a Waldorf school in Haiti

Worldwide solidarity with Waldorf educational institutions - this is the idea behind Waldorf One World Day, WOW-Day for short. One day a year, committed people collect donations in various ways and donate them to Waldorf institutions in need. The Silberwald Waldorf School in Stuttgart is taking part in WOW-Day for the second time: The students from grades nine to eleven worked in different fields, for example at a catering company, at a hotel, helping with mowing the lawn, or on a farm. Together the students earned a total of € 2.861,75. “We appreciate that young people all over the world support each other on WOW-Day”, two schoolgirls say, “it's especially nice to reach out and build a connection full of trust, despite the great distance”. The collected donations will support the “École du Village”, a Waldorf School in Haiti that was badly damaged by a hurricane in fall of 2016. The students learned about the school from their English teacher, Elisabeth Dabbert. As a member of the emergency-pedagogical team of the Friends of Waldorf Education, Ms. Dabbert regularly travels abroad and provides pedagogical first aid for traumatized children and adolescents. With the help of the WOW-Day donations, the Waldorf School can buy cows and chickens, which enable the school to be more and more self-sufficient.

Take part now! The time frame for this year’s WOW Day is from 29 September to 29 November. We invite all people in curative educational and social therapeutic institutions, as well as all students at Waldorf Schools to be a part of this worldwide campaign and to organize their own WOW Day this year. 100 percent of the proceeds will be forwarded to Waldorf and social projects.
