Ein Bustan – growing intercultural education
The Israeli Kindergarten Ein Bustan was established in 2005 with the intention to bring Jewish and Arab children together. This has been achieved. In the last seven years, the institution has grown and now provides education for 50 children aged 1 to 7, who are attending four groups. Ein Bustan also won the 2010 Award of the top ten educational projects in Israel, because it is committed to tolerance and peace. This is quite uncommon at a place where there are hardly any bilingual schools and racism is part of everyday life. Despite these achievements, Ein Bustan receives almost no public funding, even though they have an official license. The kindergarten facilities, classrooms, Bilingual Training lessons in Jewish and Arabic, and Waldorf education seminars are therefore not funded.
