50th Anniversary at Honolulu Waldorf School

This year, Honolulu Waldorf School celebrates its 50th Birthday. Located on Oahu Island, in one of the largest cities of the Pacific, the school lies 3,682 km away from the American mainland. Since its foundation in 1961, the school has constantly been growing and now over 300 children from early childhood through high school attend the Honolulu Waldorf School. In the shadow of the baobab trees, lies the old school building that hosts grades 1-8. High school on the other hand, has grown rapidly in recent years, so this part of the school has moved into another building at the coast in 2011.

From the first grade onwards the children learn foreign languages. Early they are involved in small volunteer activities, while during high school, the older ones have the opportunity to participate in international student exchange programs. The school’s aim is to educate their students in such a way, that they may positively contribute to society in the future.

The Honolulu Waldorf School is officially accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America. Furthermore, the initiative is also a member of the Hawaii Association of Independent Schools.

Incidentally, Waldorf education is the fastest growing independent educational movement of the world - with over 1,000 schools on six continents.
