Spiritual enthusiasm in Khandala

The 23-year old authoress did her voluntary year of social service in a social-therapeutic community in Bangalore/India and reports about her experiences in the annually seminar in Khandala.

During a workshop I had the opportunity to get to know those impressing sisters Aban and Dilnawaz Bana, who invited volunteers to come to their workshops in Khandala.

As I was very interested and inspired by both of them. It was obvious that I would participate due to the hearsay about the seminar and for my own plans about the future. Beginning of May I travelled curious and open minded together with another German volunteer to Khandala.

We were cordially received by Aban and, as we arrived first, we had enough time to talk with her and to explore the ambience.

It was a pleasure to meet all these different people, who were coming from all parts of India, even Nepal and Overseas were represented. It did not take long and there was a special atmosphere, which was correlating with the fact that everybody is believing, living, moving towards a similar direction... Certainly, above all, it is the common interest to learn more about the Waldorf-education, and to start the realization of that in India as well.

Besides the varying programme of the day we used every minute to make knew friendships and socialise with the people or to sing and play together. We worked together in three main groups, each one with another focus.

Spiritual atmosphere and cordiality

It is difficult to find words for the magic and the spiritual atmosphere of our group, which was inspired by Thanh Cherry - our teacher - a great woman! We went "on a journey of a young child", in order to understand the child as a spiritual being and to comprehend the holy task of the adults. I have learned incredibly much, and this enriched my life and prepared me and convinced me to go the way I want to go.

On this occasion I would like to pronounce the friendliness and cordiality of the Indian people. With deep respect I want to thank all the wonderful people I was able to meet during these two special weeks. In particular I want to thank the teachers who passionately gave us knowledge, joy and meetings and therefore they had come from Germany, Netherlands, Hawaii and Australia.

For seven years now Aban Bana is making possible that this wonderful Waldorf-seminar in India can be realised. I whish her and the seminar in Khandala a long and fruitful work so that many more people will be inspired.
